T.H.B. Myers House, Washington, NC

T.H.B. Myers' House in Washington, NC, was likely constructed prior to 1826. John Myers purchased it and undertook a significant remodeling project between 1826 and 1833. The house showcases hallmark features of the Greek Revival style, including the Greek-key motif adorning the front door. John Myers was a prominent figure in Washington’s maritime commerce. His family operated the John Myers & Sons shipping enterprise, which engaged in extensive trade with northern states, as well as a lucrative river trade to Greenville and Tarboro. The house remained in the Myers family for approximately 180 years until the passing of Helen Myers in 2012. Coincidentally, Helen Meyer’s daughter, Marsha, grew up in the house and was a good friend of mine until her death several years ago.
